The H&W 10U team of 4 boys and 4 girls competed against Norfolk, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire. Each player played 3 singles throughout the day.
The work ethic from all the players was very high and there was a great team spirit with players and parents all supporting other players on and off the court.
The team first took on Norfolk, This was a tough tie for the boys with some closely fought matches but they were not able to gain a win. The Norfolk team only sent 1 girl but 3 boys played instead to make up the numbers. This didn't deter the girls. Sally Lewin beat Reuben Porter 5-3, 4-2, Isabelle O’Connor beat Hannah Wilson Kemsley 4-2, 2-4, (10-5) and there were also victories for Asena Pavlova and Claudia Bullock which meant the final score was a 4-4 draw.
The next set of matches were against Nottinghamshire. They had a strong team and we knew we had to dig in to get some results. The boys had a good start with Stuart Shannon and Noel Watters winning their matches. The girls gained 2 wins, Claudia Bullock beat Lucy Whitchurch 4-0, 5-4, and we gained 1 win due to their team only having 3 girls. The final score was another 4-4 draw.
The final tie of the day was against Leicestershire. After the first two ties resulting in a draw the team were determined to secure the win. The boys went off to a flying start. Josh Turner beat Victor Wiles 4-0, 4-0, Noel Watters beat Louie Fletcher 4-1, 2-4, (10-4), Stuart Shannon beat Max Marriott-Clarke 2-4, 4-2, (10-8) and Harvey Ravenscroft beat Daniel Rumble 4-2, 4-1. The girls had a battle on their hands with some strong competition. Claudia Bullock and Isabel O'Conner both lost out in a match tie break. Sally Lewin lost out to a big hitter. Asena Pavlova defeated their number one 5-4, 4-2 with some excellent all round play. The final score was 5-3 to H&W.
The day was very enjoyable for all the players, they showed commitment throughout the day and it was great to see all the players supporting each other and giving their all for the team.
