Kidderminster Tennis Club won the ‘Most Developed Club in 2013’ award in the Wyre Forest Sports Awards held on 23rd October 2013.
The awards which were hosted by the Samurai Judo Club in their brand new Dojo in Zortech Avenue, Kidderminster have become an important way of recognising both individual and club achievements throughout the year. The winners are also nominated for the Hereford and Worcester Sports Partnership Awards which will be held at Worcester RFU, Sixways on 14th November where Olympic Gold and Silver medallist, Zac Purchase will be the guest speaker.
The award recognised the significant progress made by the tennis club since 2012. They have resurfaced the courts, secured a grant which enabled the installation of flood-lighting and the renovation of the clubhouse, appointed a new coaching team, increased the numbers of juniors having coaching from ~20/month to >160/month and increased membership by 30%.
KTC Head Coach Tony Wright, who won Coach of the Year at the 2012 awards said "The Wyre Forest Sports Awards are very important to clubs and participants in Wyre Forest as they recognise outstanding achievements often as a result of voluntary effort. It was a great night for Kidderminster Tennis Club and we are determined to continue the development of the club so that Kidderminster has a tennis facility worthy of a town of its size”.
Kidderminster Tennis Club, based in Baxter Gardens park, has bucked the national trend and seen its membership grow by 25% in the last 12 months following the installation of county standard floodlighting and the completion of a new clubhouse.
Coaching for juniors takes place on Saturday mornings, beginners/returners adult coaching is on Sunday mornings 9-10am and Cardio Tennis sessions are held on Tuesdays from 6.45pm. All courses will continue throughout the winter.
