

12U Boys and Girls at Corby - 4th January

The 12u Herefordshire & Worcestershire boys and girls team competed at the 12 counties event at Corby against Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire and Norfolk. Four boys and four girls from each county played one singles match each against each county. Two points were awarded for the winner of each tie and one point for a draw.
The H&W team got off to a good start against Norfolk. The girls battled through some tough matches and gained a draw. Imogen Looker bt Norfolk's Jodie Jarvis 4-2, 4-2, Lucie Palmer beat Esmè Dickinson in a closely fought match 5-4, 2-4 (10-8). Gemma Calthorpe played Megan Waghorn in another match tie break but just lost out 10-5. Lucy Austin battled through another close match against Emily Barrett with the final score 4-1, 4-2. The boys won their tie against Norfolk 3-1. Felix Gill, Joseph Morris and Harry Friend all won their matches and Josh Wares lost out to a strong Norfolk number 3.
The next match against Nottinghamshire was tough for the girls and Notts won all 4 matches. Felix Gill, Joseph Morris and Harry Friend won their singles in the boys which finished 3-1 to H&W.
The final tie was against Leicstershire. The girls had a close tie. Imogen Looker beat Lilia Bovkikova 4-0, 4-2. Lucie Palmer, Lucy Austin and Gemma Galthorpe all played well in close matches but the Leicestershire girls just edged through to secure the 3-1 win. This last tie for the boys was their toughest. Joseph Morris and Josh Wares lost out to the Leicestershire number 2 and 3 boys. Felix Gill and Harry Friend both had competitive final matches. Felix Gill bt Oliver Burt 4-1, 5-3 and Harry Friend bt Louis Marsden in an epic final match of the day 5-4, 1-4 (15-13) to secure the 2-2 draw.
The H&W players showed great commitment and determination throughout the day and finished joint 2nd overall. There was a great team spirit and alot of support from parents and players throughout the day.
