Open day for successful Redditch tennis club - Sunday 18th May
H.D.A. Redditch tennis club continues to offer opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to play competitions at their local club and for teenagers to gain experience running tennis activities and becoming tennis leaders.
The tennis club attracted 19 students from N.E.W. College Redditch and Tudor Grange Academy (formerly Kingsley college). They all completed their leaders course on Friday 2nd May during the morning and then helped organise and umpire the matches for the Redditch Schools Annual tournament for years 5 & 6 and years 7 & 8.
The events on the day ran with great success. The schools yr 5&6 tournament was played on mini tennis courts and all 7 teams competed against each other. The tournament finished with Churchill Middle School finishing 4th, Ridgeway B were 3rd, Ridgeway A 2nd and Walkwood A team claimed top spot with some closely fought matches and some excellent tennis.
Good luck to Walkwood who will represent Redditch at the county finals in June.
The yr 6&7 tournament consisted of teams from Woodrush and Churchill Middle. Woodrush Middle Schools A team were too strong on the day and were unbeaten and finished 1st.
The club also offer team tennis for all ages in local leagues. The H.D.A. Redditch ladies recently beat Studley B team 4-0 and have only lost one match this season. The mens A team this week drew with Claverdon 2-2 and the mens B team drew with Pershore B team 2-2 and beat Wildmoor B team 4-0.
The club has 13 teams in the Aegon Team Tennis county leagues and are currently top in 8&U div 3 with the B team, 9&U div 1, 10&U div 1, 14&U div 1 & div 2, 16&U div 1 and 18&U div 1. Recent results include a 10-10 draw for the 9&U team against 2nd place Bromsgrove. 12-0 victory for the 14&U A team against Pershore, 8-4 victory for the 14&U B team against Belbroughton, 12-0 victory for 12&U A team against Pershore, 12-0 victory against Droitwich for the 16&U team and 12-0 Victory for the 10&U team against Manor Park, Malvern.
As part of the Great British Tennis Weekend, the club is having an Open Day this Sunday between 1.30pm and 4pm. Everybody is welcome. It’s a great opportunity to see the facilities that are on offer. The club is open to the public for free play between 1.30pm and 4pm.
