The Albany Senior Open Tournament sponsored by Chrystals Estate Agents for the 17th year was concluded on Sunday with some really good finals. The men’s singles and doubles both featured Sean Drewry who played well to beat Marc Chinn.  He then partnered Ian Watson to provide another excellent display against clubmates Jim and Mike Travers.

The mixed doubles saw Jim Travers and Sarah Breed beating Johnny Weir and Justine Torry , Craig Swann of Douglas clinched the Group 2 final and Weir took the group one title beating young Jack Christian

Prizes were presented by Shane Magee of Chrystals who said the company was happy to continue sponsoring this event

Members are urged to consider taking the Competition Organisers course which has been re-arranged for Thursday 8 September. This is an IOMLTA course and will be held at Albany from 6-9pm. The instructor is Ian Watson. The fee is £25 BUT the first 10 applicants will be free as there is a grant from the LTA.

Next event is the club championships 10 – 18 September, sponsored by Auxesia Ltd. Entry forms will be available shortly and we do hope our female members won’t be so shy for this members only competition !The following Sunday 18 September is The Presidents Day senior/junior tournament, then the 50yr celebration dinner on 7 October.

During this next week ALL members will be receiving a book of Tombola tickets to sell  Please do your best to sell at least one book of 10 @ £1 each.

The prizes are very good with IOM Steam Packet Co donating a voucher for a car plus 2 passengers, a voucher for £200 from www.tennisnuts.com, cash prizes plus many other prizes.. The aim is to raise £2,000 to pay off the loans taken for the court re-surfacing.
