NOMINATIONS OPEN FOR THE AEGON BRITISH TENNIS AWARDS

Tuesday, October 06, 2015

Tennis Lancashire is delighted to announce that The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA), the Tennis Foundation and partner Aegon have today launched the new Aegon British Tennis Awards that will reward the people who deliver tennis in communities across Great Britain. British venues are encouraged to nominate their volunteers and coaches who make a difference at a local level.

Clubs, communities and education venues are invited to enter awards with fantastic prizes up for grabs – including a £5,000 facility grant and a visit from a tennis legend. Nominations can be made online at www.lta.org.uk/awards.

Venues, coaches and volunteers across Lancashire are encouraged to enter one of the eight award categories:

  • Volunteer Award
  • Young Volunteer Award
  • Coach Award
  • Club Award
  • Community Venue Award
  • Education Award
  • Disability Programme Award
  • Outstanding Achievement.

LTA President Cathie Sabin said: “If it wasn’t for the selfless efforts of the people who run the clubs, tennis centres and parks we simply would not be able to offer tennis to everyone who would like to play. I have long believed that everyone who helps to deliver, develop and promote British Tennis should be thanked, acknowledged and rewarded for everything they do on our behalf.”

Nominations close on 31st October, with County winners being announced between November and March. Regional winners will be announced in April with a national ceremony to be held in London in June 2016.

Mike McBrien Chairman of Tennis Lancashire commented: “We are proud of the clubs, centres, parks, schools, colleges and universities who offer tennis programmes throughout the County. Thousands of people enjoy playing tennis thanks to the efforts of committees, captains, treasurers, coaches and welfare officers, and we are delighted to offer this opportunity to recognise their invaluable contribution.”
