Loughborough BUCS Barclays Challenge Series 2010/2011

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Loughborough University recently hosted the BUCS Barclays Challenge Series 2010/2011.

There was a strong entry in particular in the mens event – including a number of entries from Bournemouth, one from Northumberland, one from St Marys and one from Aberdeen.

Loughborough's own Johnny Kinsella beat Scott Whitbread in the final of the Men’s event and Claire Birnie beat Steph Parker in the final of the Ladies.

Thanks from the organisers must go to (for their excellent input):

Paddy & Dave – Physios for the weekend
Rachel Walker – Volunteer through BUCS
Dan Cosgrove – Tournament referee
Matt Cole – driving & playing for the Bournemouth team
Tennis Leicestershire – additional courts & photocopying

Full results are now available to view.

The Barclays Challenge events are designed to create a highly competetive environment for the best in university tennis but also engage other high quality players from the community, providing a more 'open' competition. All this allows the hosting university the opportunity to take on managing and organising these events and to engage with the wider community. With prize money available for those that make it through to the final stages the BUCS Barclays Challenge Tours are set to be more competitive than ever before.
