Friday, January 29, 2010

Loughborough junior tennis player Anna Michelle Chesca has earned a prestigious place on the Lawn Tennis Association’s (LTA) AEGON FutureStars Programme, after a successful year on court.

The eight-year-old, who trains at the Tennis Midlands International High Performance Centre here in the town, is one of 426 youngsters selected for the programme which recognises and supports some of the best juniors in the country based on the individual player’s talent ID assessment for the under 10s and ranking for all other age groups.

Anna will join top juniors from around the country who all receive varying levels of funding and support from the LTA.

Championing the Loughborough player’s selection is former British number one and US Grand Slam runner-up Greg Rusedski, who is the Talent ID Ambassador for the LTA.

“As an AEGON FutureStar Anna Michelle has a great opportunity to improve her game and grow within the sport,” said Rusedski.

“She is one of the most talented youngsters in the country as she has been listed as an AEGON FutureStar and I look forward to seeing her progress.

“Getting the right support when you are young is vital for any keen tennis player, but so too is enjoying the game and I’m hopeful that Anna has a good combination of fun and support.”
