The LTA High Performance Centre at the University of Loughborough is one of four tennis centres around the country hosting a series of Wheelchair Tennis Camps in 2010 for Adults and Juniors, all organised by the Tennis Foundation with the support of the Lord's Taverners.
The wheelchair tennis camps come to Loughborough in September and December, kicking off with a Lord's Taverners Junior Only Camp on Saturday, 4th September that is being held as part of the Lord's Taverners Wheelchair Tennis Junior Development Programme, an initiative now in its second year that aims to give younger players a solid platform to exploring their potential in this fun and exciting sport.
The following day, Sunday 5th September, an one day camp for both Adults and Juniors will be held, while a two-day Camp for Adults and Juniors comes to Loughborough on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th December.
Participants in all the camps will have the opportunity to be coached by leading licensed coaches in the skills needed to play one of the most popular of all wheelchair sports, including racket strokes, chair manoeuvrability and match tactics. There will be the opportunity to try out purpose-built tennis wheelchairs, get tips on chair set up and get a whole host of information about the sport, including where and how you can continue to play the sport in your area.
Jayant Mistry, Inclusive Sports Development Officer for EFDS East Midlands, is Britain's most successful men's player ever in the sport, a former Wimbledon men's wheelchair doubles champion, world top 10 singles player and former world No 2 doubles player. Jayant is among the
many established players who have assisted at previous wheelchair tennis camps over the years and helped to inspire countless players to take up the sport.
Additional Camps are being held throughout the year in Bolton, Swindon and Welwyn Garden City. For further details about any of the Tennis Foundation's Wheelchair Tennis Camps.
