On Saturday 10th December, the Fallows Cup final took place between Hamilton Tennis Club, the defending champions and Leicestershire Lawn Tennis Club.
Fourteen clubs had competed in this year’s cup and some fantastic tennis had been played by both teams for them to get to the final.
Hamilton’s Helen Thorpe and Charlotte Griffin overpowered Jennifer and Bethany Gadsby to take the girls’ doubles 6-3, 6-2. The boys’ doubles proved to be more of a battle with Leicestershire’s Viraj Bhawsar and Kieran O’Gorman holding it together on the big points to take the match 7-6, 7-5 over Hamilton’s Tom and James Rowe.
The match had to be decided by playing the mixed doubles. Jennifer Gadsby and Viraj Bhawsar came up against the experience of Helen Thorpe and James Rowe. The Hamilton team won 6-2, 6-3.
It was a gripping final in which both teams played some outstanding tennis. Congratulations to both teams.
