2011 Tennis Leicestershire Awards Evening

The County men's over-35s won the team of the year award at the annual Leicestershire presentation evening.

The team, led by Jon Ison, beat former Davis Cup player Jeremy Bates and former British No.1 Chris Wilkinson on their way to winning the Vets GB Men's final.

Ison said: "It was a great team performance from all of the players. Having beaten the likes of Bates and Wilkinson to the trophy is a brilliant achievement."

Winners of other awards included 12-times Special Olympics' gold medallist Zara Jurenko, who won the special disability award for the third year running.

Paul Bradfield won coach of the year and Tom Kisiel picked up the senior player award for the second year in a row.

The lifetime achievement award went to Alison Picken, while Joyce Wright picked up the volunteer award, with Steve Brett collecting the veteran player award.

The junior honours went to Barnaby Thorold in the boy's category and Helen Thorpe again won junior girl.

The Anthony Hunting Trophy went to Jack Simpson for his contribution to tennis, and Charlotte Griffin, of Hamilton Tennis club, collected the Greenshire's Cup for her outstanding commitment.

Ashby Castle mixed first team retained the Mercury Shield for the fifth consecutive year, and Hamilton's mixed first team received the Mercury Cup, having been unbeaten for the entire season.

The evening was held at Leicester Tigers' ground and Annabel Croft was the guest speaker.
