Sam Ashcroft from Breaston won the 38th Jack Britton Singles Trophy at Nottingham Tennis Centre on the weekend of the 4th/5th August at Nottingham Tennis Centre.
The number 1 seed won his first two matches on Saturday for the loss of just 5 games. In the semi-final the 19 year old, who trains at David Lloyd Derby, beat No 3 seed Clive Parsons from Loughborough 6-1 6-2.
In the second semi final 14 year old Pierre Luiggi, a performance junior at Nottingham Tennis Centre beat Tom Lewis, a tennis coach from Loughborough, 6-4 7-5.
The final was played after a rain delay in bright conditions with Sam dominating the early exchanges to take the first set 6-0, but Pierre came back strong to take the second set 7-6. The match was decided on a 10 point match deciding tie-break with Sam forcing his younger opponent into errors to take the title 10-5.
The consolation event was won by Jamie McLoughlin of Keyworth, who beat Jaime Jimenez from Lincolnshire 6-2, 2-6 and 12-10 in a match deciding tie-break.
The tournament in its 38th year is contested by players from clubs around the East Midlands, and excludes senior county players from the last 5 years.
