A £50,000 donation has been served up to a sports club.

Sport in Desford has received the funding to provide new tennis court floodlighting at its Peckleton Lane site in the village.

It is National Lottery money that was handed out by Sport England and was presented to chairwoman of Sport in Desford Sue Houghton by Bosworth MP David Tredinnick.

The money will be used alongside £50,000 from other sources.

Mrs Houghton said: "We are absolutely delighted with this award from Sport England, which will, with other funders' contributions, bring our facilities up to first-class standards."

She added: "We have about 600 members who will benefit. There is a great demand for good sports and fitness activities from tiny tots to retired folk, from health referral to inclusive sessions and people competing in county leagues."

The money will also be used to install 92 solar panels on the clubhouse's south east-facing roof, to cut energy costs and produce an income.

Mr Tredinnick said: "To have obtained this award is a great endorsement of the work that Sport in Desford is doing."
