Play Tennis, Have Fun, Save Lives!

Thursday, March 01, 2012

Every child is born to play, but many don’t get the chance. In the world’s poorest countries, children are dying at a rate too awful to think about. They’ll never get to fulfil their potential.

THE CHALLENGE
The No Child Born to Die campaign aims to stop the needless deaths of 7.6 million children every year. Most are dying from preventable and treatable illnesses like pneumonia and diarrhoea because they can’t get the treatment they need. Save the Children already saves millions of lives and with your help they can save many, many more.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Save the Children want you to hold a tennis tournament in your local area. The money you raise will change children’s lives all over the world. Join the 50,000 people who have helped raise over £2m in more than 20 years. It’s up to you how serious or silly, big or small your tennis tournament is – just get together on the court for a good cause! Anyone can play, whatever their age or ability.

• Play with your school, university, club, company, neighbours, friends, or family.
• Play when you like: make it an all-day tournament, or spread your matches over a week or more.
• Choose the venue that suits you – your tennis club, school courts or local park.
• Set your own rules – have knockouts, round robins, a points system...

THE TENNIS CUP
The Tennis Cup is a nationwide tournament for winners of Save the Children tennis tournaments, organised by people like you across the country.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
A minimum of six pairs must have competed in your tournament for the winners to go through to the Tennis Cup.

There are five categories, all doubles. Your winning pair must fit into one of them.

The Tennis Cup is otherwise open to players of all standards (most players who enter don’t have any rating at all). Individual players can participate in as many tournaments as they wish, but when it comes to the Tennis Cup itself, they can only compete in one category.

RAISE FUNDS, WIN PRIZES!
Top fundraisers win top prizes, including invites to the FESTIVAL OF TENNIS! If your tournament raises over £500, or your players raise over £100 (£50 for junior entrants) you can all win fantastic tennis prizes in the fundraisers prize draw. Past prizes include a money-can’t-buy day at Wimbledon and tickets to top UK tennis events.

THE FESTIVAL OF TENNIS
Held on Sunday 14 October, a fun-packed day of tennis for all – it includes the Tennis Cup finals and a celebration of the best fundraising. There’s a celebrity guest each year – in 2011 we were joined by Paralympic gold medalist and TV star Ade Adepitan. We’ve got great matches and goody bags for all Tennis Cup competitors, plus coaching sessions and cardio tennis for everyone (including mum and dad!).
