Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College produced their best-ever performances at the Aegon Senior Students team finals.
The women's and mixed teams both reached their respective finals at the Bolton Indoor Arena.
Despite finishing runners-up, both teams will take encouragement from their battling displays.
The women's team were seeded No.1 and qualified for the final after beating Cheltenham College, Sevenoaks School and George Watson's College to top their pool.
The opening stages of the final against Wilmslow High School were well-contested with the first doubles sets going with serve.
Unfortunately, Wyggeston's Rumbi Mutenga suffered an injury with only five games played and had to retire.
That meant Wyggeston had to concede two rubbers and they needed to win the remaining four to take the match.
Although La Toya Francis beat her opponent 6-2, Lorna Tansley and Harriet Comley lost well-contested sets 7-5 and 6-3 and, therefore, Wyggeston were beaten.
In the mixed doubles, second seeds Wyggeston also qualified for the final with straight-sets wins against Queen Mary's Sixth Form College, Beechen Cliff School and Hartlepool Sixth Form College.
Against Ellesmere College in the final, Wyggeston made a nervous start, losing the first two sets 6-2 and 6-0.
They pulled things back in the third set with James Rowe and Harriet Comley winning 6-0.
That left Keiran O'Gorman and Lorna Tansley the job of levelling the tie. Despite rallying bravely from 5-1 down to 5-4, Wyggeston were unable to push their opponents any further, eventually being pipped 6-4 to lose the overall match 3-1.
The women's team turn their attention next to the Aderdare Cup, while Wyggeston players will be representing the East Midlands Region in the forthcoming British Colleges' Sport National Finals.
