Leicestershire Junior County Championships 2013 (Saturday 24th August – Saturday 31st August)
Individual entry level has been maintained at a high level. 2013 -346 entries, compared with 359 in 2012. (It could become higher if we get a few late entries in the next few days)
A promising increase of 10% in girls’ entry levels (This means of course a slight fall in the boys!!!)
Top seed in the Boys 18 and under event is Christopher Egan Morriss who made his debut for the Leicestershire Men’s Team in Group 2 of the Aegon Inter County Cup a few weeks ago. Last year’s title holder Matthew Richmond will however be making every effort to defend his title. Second seed in the 18 and under is Barnaby Thorold (pictured)who will also be hoping to capture the 16 and under title he so narrowly missed in 2012.
Top seed in the 18 and under girls is the title holder Corinne Blythe who will be hoping to retain her title. Jennifer Gadsby who recently made her debut for the Leicestershire Ladies County Week team could be a tough opponent for Corinne.
Last year’s 12 and under girl’s finalist, the highly promising Anna Chesca, is looking to go one step better in this event this year. She is also top seed in the 14’s age group.
Two boys who are the likely favourites for the 14’s boy’s title are the two boys who fought out the 12’s boys event in 2012 - the winner Rahul Dhokia and his beaten opponent Roman Kenny-Manning.
An exciting week’s tennis is in prospect at the Leicestershire LTC.
