Tennis Refereeing can be a rewarding way to be involved in tennis. Not to be confused with umpiring, a referee, is the organiser of a tournament whether it be one event on one day or a week long tournament with several events. The role consists of scheduling matches prior to the event, communicating with players before and during the event and also being present during the event to ensure that everything runs smoothly within the Rules of Tennis and the Code of Conduct.
The basic referee course allows you to assist your club on internal events and also allows you to run match plays, but should you wish to become more involved then after 4 days of work experience, shadowing a qualified referee, you can attend a Full Referee Course. After successfully completing this course, you can apply to run county, regional and national events as a referee or where the event is larger as an assistant referee or court supervisor.
Working as a referee is a paid position, although it is realistic to think of it as a hobby rather than a full time career in most cases.
Details of the Basic and Full courses that are running between now and Christmas can be found by clicking on the links.
