The Road to Wimbledon County Final was held once more at Carisbrooke Tennis Club in glorious sunshine. For the first time a staggered draw format was used with the top seeded players coming in the second day for the Boys draw. Sadly, fewer clubs completed their club events this year, so only 8 girls and 22 Boys made it through to the County Final.
There were some close matches in the boys draw. However there were no surprises or upsets in the final outcome as Rahul Dhokia (seeded 1) beat Thomas Nevill (seeded 2 ) in a hard fought final – 4-2,4-2.
The girls looked a little more one-sided but great performances came from Elise Hall-Dryden and Martha Thomas. Martha made it through to the final against Jess Buchanan (both Leicestershire players). It was a long hard fought match in searing heat with every game going to deuce. The score of 4-0, 4-0 to Jess does not give a true reflection of how close it was.
Rahul and Tom both travelled down to compete in the National Finals at Wimbledon along with Jess and we look forward to hearing about their experiences.
