This year the U12 County Cup team, were in action at Kings Park in Northampton.
Day 1 and the team was Ben Moore. Alex Lunn. Alex Solonenko and Oliver Burt.
Our first match was potentially the toughest on paper vs a very strong Warwickshire team.
Ben Moore got off to a great start against Ben Brewster who had recently played for GB at the no1 position racing ahead to a 3-1 lead in the first set. Brewster pegged it back to 3-3 with some fantastic defense and eventually won 5-3, 4-0.
Alex Lunn fell to Charlie Gregory 1-4, 0-4 despite some excellent play.
Alex Solonenko kept us in the tie with a: 1-4, 4-1 10-5 win vs Dan Bird at no3.
On to the doubles where Ben Moore & Alex Solonenko took on Ben Brewster & Charlie Gregory.
Clearly match of the day with all the teams watching some excellent tennis from both sides. Leicestershire were just pipped to the post narrowly losing 4-5, 4-5 in two heart breaking tie breaks.
Leics 1. Warwick 3.
Next up was Northants and the Leicestershire team was in a ruthless mood winning all 3 of the singles. Without losing a set. Oliver Burt and Alex Lunn made an excellent partnership sealing the victory with a 4-0, 4-0.
Leics 4. Northants 0
Day 2 and the boys were up against Notts. Ben Moore. Alex Lunn and Alex Solonenko were in action for the singles. The boys started where they had left off on Saturday winning all of the singles rubbers allowing Oliver to partner Matt Howse in his first match of the tie. The boys came through 4-2, 5-3 to seal a clean sweep in the first match.
Leics 4. Notts 0.
Next up was Lincolnshire, their team was proving to be a tricky one over the weekend and this match was no exception.
Alex Solonenko started things off with a win at No: 3. Alex Lunn lost a tricky match in the deciding set tie break before Ben Moore won at No: 1 leaving the tie at Leics 2 Lincolnshire 1 going into the doubles. All to play for.
For the doubles Alex Lunn and Alex Solonenko were up and they battled well eventually winning 4-2, 1-4, 10-8 in a thrilling end to the weekend.
Leics 3. Lincs 1.
A great effort from all the boys on court, some stand out performances in the singles & doubles and a brilliant team spirit throughout the weekend.
