First Welsh Regional, Tennis Foundation, Tournament Victory

Players from across England, Scotland and Wales contested the first Welsh Regional, Tennis Foundation, Tournament held at Wrexham Tennis Centre. Desford Lawn Tennis Clubs  Matthew Chilvers  won the division one singles event only dropping three games on his way to collecting the gold medal. He followed this up by winning the division one doubles event again collecting a gold medal. Matthew was delighted with performance over the weekend saying

“This is great I would like to thank Alec Matty, my coach at Desford Lawn Tennis Club for all the hard work he put into getting me ready for the tournament. It has been great fun and getting double gold is unbelievable”

Matthew is supported by Leicester-Shire and Rutland Sport (LRS) who coordinate the Go Gold Talented athlete scheme, a funding scheme for young talented athletes from across Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland. The scheme supports athletes that are competing at regional level or higher and are recognised by their National Governing Bodies as potential Olympic, Paralympic, Special Olympic or Commonwealth Games performers. Funding for the scheme is provided by Leicestershire County Council, Leicester City Council and Rutland County Council.

Matthew’s next major tournament will be the UK National Tennis Tournament to be held at Nottingham Tennis Centre in November.
