Hundreds of junior tennis team players from all over the city and county have recently celebrated their successes in the Aegon sponsored Leicestershire leagues.
The annual junior team awards afternoon, held at Leicester Grammar school in Great Glen, saw the Stoneygate based Leicestershire Lawn Tennis Club club lift the main trophy. From ages 8 to 18 the club achieved most league wins and runners-up places to become 'Club of The Year'. This ended a sequence of wins by Kibworth in 5 of the last 6 years. Kibworth had to be content with second place overall, Lutterworth being a close third.
The county has the highest junior team participation rates of anywhere in Britain. There are 43 summer leagues and 30 winter leagues for boys and girls plus a mixed knock-out competition.
County tennis chairman, John Chapman, and county men's captain, Tom Kisiel, were on hand to pass over the trophies which also saw Lutterworth's Alex Simpson collect the 'Team Player of the Year' cup. In the knock out competition, the 'Fallows Cup' The Leicestershire club again triumphed.
