It was a double success for Desford Lawn Tennis Club’s Matthew Chilvers this week as he returned from the Northern Region (Disability Event ) held at Beckets Park Tennis Centre, Leeds, with a silver in singles group one and a gold in doubles group one. It was a solid start to the season which has started much earlier than previously with extra tournaments being added this year due to the success of the regional series last year.
This was followed up on Tuesday 27th January at County Hall Leicestershire when Matthew was presented with his Go Gold award for 2015 by Derbyshire Cricket Club’s Shiv Thakar. The aim of GO GOLD is to support talented young athletes, including those athletes who are being recognised by their National Governing Bodies as being our future Olympic, Paralympic, Special Olympic and Commonwealth athletes and potential medal winners. The award is administered by Leicester-Shire & Rutland Sport (LRS), supported by funding from Leicestershire County Council. Leicester City Council and Rutland County Council.
