Following the Earthquake in Nepal and the devastating after effects, a couple from Birstall have organised a 24hrs tennis marathon in a bid to raise funds for the Disasters Emergency Committee Nepal Earthquake Appeal.
On Sat 13th starting at 2pm the two tennis players from Leicestershire will be on court for 24hrs taking on challengers for 30 min sessions who be charged for the privilege!
The event will take place at Rothley Ivanhoe Tennis Club with challengers ranging from 7 years old to 77, a Wimbledon Wheelchair Tennis Champion and players from clubs across the county.
The couple have been moved to help after longing to visit Nepal for a number of years and with so many of the population affected they wanted to support the appeal in some way.
The tennis community is a really supportive and generous group but we would like to encourage any non tennis players to sponsor us to keep us motivated on court
A text number and justgiving page (see above) have been set up to take sponsorship or cash donations can be made on the day for anyone who wants to cheer them on in person.
Anyone wanting more information can call Mary George on 0772 5666 343 or Kevin Shepherd on 0797 280 8453.
