County Junior Tennis Championships. Roman Kenny-Manning lifts three boys' titles

Tuesday, September 20, 2016

A bumper crowd of local tennis supporters packed the viewing galleries of the Leicestershire Tennis and Squash club  to watch the finals of this year's county junior championships. The finals' day was interrupted on several occasions by downpours of heavy rain, enough to turn the show courts into a lake. Play was suspended for several hours but finished late into the evening.

County president and former world number 13 in his playing days, Mark Cox, was once again on hand to pass over the trophies. Cox praised the extremely high standard of play and paid special tribute to the parents and guardians of the players who make large sacrifices to allow their children to compete at such a level.

The most notable performance came from Roman Kenny-Manning who in one day managed to lift the flagship 18U singles title, the 18U boys' doubles with Luke Tatman and the adult transition 21U singles.

In the girls main event the 18U singles was won by Martha Thomas.

Meanwhile in the very strong 10U girls' division, where the county had recently lifted the national title, Talia Neilson- Gatenby came through against Emily Pollard.
