Road to Wimbledon County Finals 2009

Saturday 18 July saw the Lincolnshire Road to Wimbledon county finals at Boston Tennis Club. This is an Under 14 singles event with entrants qualifying through being winners or runners-up from their Club or School Road to Wimbledon tournament which have been held across the county since March.

12 boys and 7 girls fought for a chance to play at the most famous venue in Great Britain - the All England Lawn Tennis Club, Wimbledon.

Both the boys and girls draw saw many close fought matches with Dominic Beesley (Boston) coming out on top in the Boys event and Madeline Verdegaal  Stokes (Boston) in the Girls.

Lewis Fisher (Boston) was the Runner-Up in the boys and Jemma Cardy (Grimsby St James)was Runner-Up in the girls.  

The final results were as follows;

Dominic Beesley (Boston) beat Lewis Fisher (Boston) 6 - 3, 6 - 1

Madeline Verdegaal (Boston) beat Jemma Cardy (Grimsby) 7 - 6 (3), 6 - 0.

Madeline and Dominic will now join the other counties winners at the National Finals to be played at the All England Club from 17th to 22nd August 2009.
