GBTW Open Day at 'Washy' Tennis Club

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

A couple of hours before it was due to start there was a tremendous thunderstorm (see photo) when the courts were flooded and again four players contested another opponent – the British weather at its fiercest - in the early hours of Sunday morning, 1.20am to be exact. [See the video of the storm play posted on the timeline of 'Washy' Tennis club’s Facebook page.]

The event was reported throughout on Twitter and Facebook and there was a great amount of interest shown with lots of family, friends and club members supporting the intrepid/brave/very wet players. Over 400 games were completed using a rota where at least four players were on court at all times. Although not keeping record of the games won it was expected that Laura would win the most games – and she did!

Funds for eight deserving charities were raised, each charity chosen because of a personal significance. Seven of these charities can be accessed direct using the Just Giving link below. With a little more help the 'Washy' youngsters will hit their £2,000 target so if you can help please do! The club is very proud of them and they have clearly demonstrated what young people are capable of achieving.

The charities are Breast Cancer UK, HeartLink, Alzheimer's society, Music for youth, Making an impact through sport, Young minds trust, The sick children's trust, The Durrell Wildlife conservation trust

Washingborough Tennis Club has also given over £120 from the proceeds from a book/DVD/CD sale plus a donation to be split across these 8 charities.
