The Lincolnshire Ladies team arrived at Grantham Tennis Club full of confidence for the weekend, much thanks to a home draw, and also following their promotion to Division 3 at the summer competition.
Day one saw every team member take to the court, facing a tricky, young Cornwall side. The team were boosted by the return of Seed 2 Samantha Vickers from the USA, and also Seed 1 Jade Windley back on the singles court. The team found themselves 4-2 up following the singles matches, therefore needing just one doubles match for the win. Unlucky to lose one in a third set tie-break, they won the other two to take the tie 6-3.
On day two the team faced North Wales, knowing that if they won, they would play for promotion on the final day. After defeating them in the summer, the team were hopeful, and took the tie comfortably 6-3.
So, day three and the whole team meant business; hitting the practice courts at 7.30am before breakfast. North of Soctland also had two wins under their belt, so it was a straight knockout for promotion. After some well fought battles, two three-setters and four tie-breaks later, Lincolnshire took five out of six singles matches to run away with the tie without the doubles matches needing to be played. This secured promotion to Division 4 for next Winter.
