Report

The Lincolnshire Girls 10 & Under team worked incredibly hard through a tough and close weekend at Eastgate Club for County Cup 2016.

Very unfortunately, the team started at a slight disadvantage when #1 seed Isabel Wookey was ruled out with a foot injury a week before the competition. This gave the three remaining girls a tougher weekend with less time for rest and recovery, as well as having to each play one position higher than they would have.

First up was Warwickshire, and despite lots of nerves, the girls went into the doubles with the tie still live after Jessica Dyson won her singles. Sadly, despite gaining a small lead, Jess and Stephanie just missed out in a 3rd set tie-break.

Saturday afternoon saw the girls face Derbyshire, and this went even closer. After singles wins for Jess and Lois, the score after all the matches was 2-2, and so a tie-break shootout was needed to decide the winners. Jessica and Stephanie stepped up, but were yet again unlucky to narrowly miss out 11-9.

With rested legs on Sunday morning, the team played Nottinghamshire. There was much excitement once again as each girl contributed to take the tie to another shootout. Unluckily for the team, Nottinghamshire played a tactical substitute, and took the shootout convincingly 10-3.

In the final match-up of the weekend, the girls had absolutely nothing to lose as they faced top of the table Leicestershire, who had two GB 12U representatives in their ranks. The girls gave their absolute all, but the overall winners of the weekend just proved too strong.

Stephanie, Jessica and Lois now deserve a good break over the half-term week, as they sure didn’t get one over the weekend. The team members did themselves proud, and the table was not kind to them, as they could have very easily finished 2nd or 3rd too. A big well done must be given to each of them, to their parents, and the welcoming home crowd.
