12U GIRLS COUNTY CUP - LINCS TEAM MANAGER REPORT

The team, consisting of Imogen Wherry, Alice Gamman, Christie Halton and Stephanie Ainsworth fought incredibly hard throughout a tough weekend at Caunton Tennis Club, Nottinghamshire for the 12U County Cup Div A 2016.

Saturday morning saw us face eventual group winners Warwickshire, and the girls already knew a battle was ahead for them all as they were without #1 seed Lucy Evans. Nonetheless, Alice Gamman stepped up to the plate at #1, Christie Halton at #2 and Stephanie Ainsworth, playing an age group up, at #3. After the first round, Christie kept the tie alive, winning a tight match in two tie-break sets. Alice and Imogen Wherry contested the doubles, but their opposition just proved too strong.

Northamptonshire were next, the group runners-up, and yet again, Christie won the prize for staying on court the longest, just missing out 5-3 5-3. Sadly, this was the closest we got to a rubber, as again, our doubles opponents proved too tricky for Alice and Christie.

Alice, Christie and Imogen were to face Nottinghamshire on a damp Sunday morning in the days first singles rubbers, and yet again Christie provided much excitement as she took her big-hitting opponent to a 2nd set tie-break. Unfortunately, her opponent pulled through 9-7, and the Notts girls proved too consistent as they ran away with the tie, after Alice and Steffi stepped up to play the doubles rubber.

So, playing for pride against Leicestershire in singles was Alice, Christie and Imogen. Christie continued to get her money’s worth by playing two tie-breaks in her final singles match of the weekend, but sadly went down 10-7 in the third. Alice and Imogen’s opponents proved too consistent, before Christie and Imogen teamed up to play doubles, but to no avail.

Final Results were:

Warwickshire 6 – 2 Lincs

Northamptonshire 8 – 0 Lincs

Nottinghamshire 8 – 0 Lincs

Leicestershire 8 – 0 Lincs

Huge, huge props to Alice for a tough weekend at #1 Seed, Christie the tie-break Queen for continually fighting, Imogen for battling through blisters, and Steffi for playing up an age-group.

The future is promising girls!
