The team started off with a tough opening match .v. Nottinghamshire, the result of this would prove critical at the end of day. Nottinghamshire came out winners 6-3. Lincolnshire lost 2 matches in three sets one of those matches was 11-9 in the third set after having a couple of match points.
Next up was Northamptonshire. Another close contest with Lincolnshire coming out 5-4 winners. The tie again had lots of close matches with Lincolnshire winning one three set match and losing out in three, three set matches.
The final match was against Leicestershire. Lincolnshire ran out 7-2 winners and one of the best results against a historically strong county.
All matches during the day were tight. Northamptonshire went on to beat Nottinghamshire, which left Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire with 2 wins and 1 loss. With Leicestershire and Northamptonshire finishing with 1 win 2 losses.
The final standings then went on rubbers won, both Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire finished with equal rubbers won. Therefore the standings were decided on the head to head between Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, which unfortunately went against us. Group D team match results
Final Placings:
1ST NOTTINGHAMSHIRE
2ND LINCOLNSHIRE
3RD LEICESTERSHIRE
4TH NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
I can honestly say this is one of the best junior team experiences I have been involved in. All kids were a credit to their clubs, coaches, parents and of course the county. We did not lose one point due to a lack of concentration throughout the day; the kids supported each with enthusiasm and were where I needed them to be at the right time. Really hope the members of this team progress through the age groups and keep showing the same commitment in future years and age groups. All players contributed with wins during the day and there was a genuine team feels about placing second. With Lincolnshire losing 5 matches in the final set it could have been a winners medal on a different day…..
