Monday, June 05, 2017

Chase Burgess (Market Deeping), Noah Freeman (Boston), Callum Moore (DLBW), William Pettitt (Boston) James Gedney from Boston was selected to be part of the team but unable to play due to injury.

This year's u10's was held under the ‘mostly’ Sunny Skies at Eastgate Tennis Club in Lincoln.

The first match against Nottinghamshire always proves a tough battle.  Will Pettitt led the way but missed out in a close two set battle after fighting hard, Noah Freeman took his match down to the wire and won a very close two sets in tie breaks to level the match at 1-1.  Chase Burgess left on court took his match to a third set tie break, and playing some great tennis won the 3rd set tie break

In the doubles Noah and Chase played well and won a really tight tie break in the third set, great work guys!

Into the heat of the day we faced Northants who had made it to the national finals last year so we knew this was going to be tough. After having an amazing start to his match Will stormed the first set and took a lead in the second set.  Unfortunately his opponent proved too strong and Will just missed out.  Noah playing well at 2 had a comfortable win, which left Callum who won a tight first set battling out a close 2nd set.  Unfortunately for Callum the heat of the day proved too much and Callum was forced to retire at 3-4 in the second set. In the doubles Callum and Will missed out which resulted in a 3-1 loss against Northants but great effort guys.

Day 2 provided yet another day of wonderful weather much to the delight of the Lincs players and parents. The day started with the singles rubbers against Leicestershire. Representing Lincs in the singles were Callum Moore, Noah Freeman and Chase Burgess. Chase, playing in the number 1 singles position missed out on a narrow first set but found some inspired tennis to take the second set 4-0. The third set was a close affair but Chase just lost out to the Leicestershire number 1, 4-2 0-4 10-7. Noah, full of confidence from winning all 3 of his matches on day 1 got off to a fantastic start winning the opening set. After a close second set and a nail biting tie break third set Noah just missed out 1-4 4-2 10-6. Callum Moore in the third singles showed great fight and determination to recover from a set down to take the match into a deciding tie break. Unfortunately the score ended 4-0 3-5 10-6 in Leicestershire’s favour . The doubles rubber, played by Chase and Noah, was lost 4-1 4-0. Final score: 8-0

The second match of the day was against a very strong Derbyshire team. Chase lost out 4-0 4-1 in the opening singles. Will Pettit who was causing his opponent a great deal of trouble with his forehand lost his match 4-1 4-0. Callum for the second time in a day staged a great comeback after losing the first set to take the second  4-2. Lady Luck was once again not on Callum’s side losing it 10-6 meaning a 4-0 2-4 10-6 loss. The doubles rubber was played by Will and Callum who showed some great spirit and teamwork again finding themselves in a third set tie break,  this time losing out 10-8. Final score: 8-0

A great weekend was had by all and the lads effort and attitude all weekend were a credit to Lincolnshire tennis.
