Community Activity Support Grants

Monday, April 29, 2013

The CMO's report 'At least five times a week, made a clear link between physical inactivity and ill health. Physical activity can help prevent and manage over 20 conditions and diseases including coronary heart disease, stroke, diabetes and cancer. It also promotes mental well-being and helps people to manage their weight.

According to current recommendations, adults should be at least moderately active for at least 30 minutes, at least 5 days a week. Recent estimates suggest that around 6 out of 10 men and 7 out of 10 women are not active enough to benefit their health. Activity levels vary with age, gender, class and ethnicity.

Projects that increase physical activity opportunities play a very important role within all communities. We hope that this grant will provide you with the funding to further enhance your schemes, and in doing so reach and have a wider impact on even more specialist population groups.

Alternatively the grant may be used to start up new schemes that focus on the following typically inactive groups:

 People with disabilities

 Girls and women

 People with mental ill health

 BME communities

 Older adults

Support grants of up to £500.00 are now available for projects that focus on physical activity across Norfolk. To apply for the grants you must be a constituted and recognised organisation or community group and submit evidence on request to support this.
