NORFOLK MEN SO CLOSE BUT MISS OUT ON PROMOTION

It was another exciting weekend for the Men, who were looking to gain promotion back into the top division of The Aegon County Cup.

After two tight wins against Kent 6-3 and Lincolnshire 5-4, the team faced a straight shoot out with Yorkshire for promotion.

Captain Nicky Crawley rolled back the years to set the team on there way with a 7-5,6-4 win playing at No.5. However the balance of the match was altered as Norfolk looked to take a lead into the doubles. Dan Wynne played an epic 3.5 hr match but despite having 3 match points could not get over the line and eventually lost 7-6, 6-7, 6-8. At 3-3
It was all level and Yorkshire managed to win the opening two doubles to win the tie.

Barry Fulcher who has been performing so well on the over 35 world tour was Norfolks stand out performer. He managed to win 3 of 3 singles over the weekend.

Captain Crawley was pleased with the team performance despite missing out on promotion: "the spirit of this team is amazing. We are all getting on a bit but continue to get results. Baz was immense and despite Dan losing he was playing at a great level. Will has injected some legs into the team but it was a shame we couldn't get Alex or Kris on to make there debuts. Despite not playing they supported the team brilliantly and along with Will, will be the future of this team".
