Another Exciting Norfolk Road To Wimbledon Final

Tuesday, July 17, 2012

The number one seeded players Alex McNaughton and Maria Andrews were in great form at the Norfolk Road to Wimbledon County Finals, only dropping three games and one game respectively to take their positions in the National Finals at the Bank of England ground.

Alex McNaughton played the number two seed Matthew Samson in the final with both players producing great results in the preliminary rounds. Alex was just too strong for Matthew and ended up winning the final 4-1 4-1.

The 14U Girls event produced similar results with both the number one and number two seeds winning through to the final. The number one seed Maria Andrews dominated the event, only losing one game in the entire tournament.  Maria Andrews played Rosie Pooley in the final, but the difference in age between the players meant that Maria was just too strong for Rosie, and Maria won 4-0 4-0.

A quick thank you to the clubs that took part in the internal club/school competitions and the organisers that ran those events and to Derek Perry for refereeing the Norfolk County Final.

Tennis East are looking forward to another great year of Road to Wimbledon in 2013, and will be expecting a larger number of entries after the successes of this year.
