A Norwich tennis club is giving those inspired by The Championships, Wimbledon the chance to pick up a racket at a free open day on the eve of the tournament.
East Anglia Tennis & Squash Club, on Lime Tree Road, is hosting a ‘Wimbledon Day’ on Sunday 23 June between 10am and 3pm, offering a full programme of activity for people of all ages and abilities.
Visitors will also get the chance to rub shoulders with former Great Britain ace and Norwich resident Richard Bloomfield.
Bloomfield will be taking part in a tennis exhibition match at the club against rising British youngster Robin Goodman, 21, who currently trains and studies in America. `
Children can try their hand at LTA Mini Tennis, which offers the perfect introduction to the sport of tennis with smaller courts, nets and rackets and lower bouncing balls but all the energy of the real thing.
For adults there will be courts available to have a go at Cardio Tennis, a series of tennis-based drills and activities played to up-tempo music on a tennis court.
The club will also be offering membership deals – with no joining fee and 12 months for the price of ten for those who sign up on the day.
Strawberries and cream will be available throughout the day, while the club will also be putting on a BBQ.
Head coach Derek Perry said: “We are really excited about giving people the chance to come down and see the facilities the club has to offer and experience a little bit of Wimbledon at the same time.
“We want to create a fun atmosphere because that is what tennis is all about, there are activities for everyone regardless of age or ability and I’d encourage anyone to come down and give tennis a try.”
