Wimbledon came early this year in Burnham Market when 12 young hopefuls battled it out to become local champions.
For two hours on Wednesday 24th June Burnham Market Primary School camped out on the village’s playing field to watch the annual inter-house tennis competition hosted by their partners The Burnhams Tennis Club.
This was the third year this popular event has taken place, following training sessions subsidised by the club and run by the club’s LTA coach, Becky Palmer.
As usual the event was a showpiece of good sportsmanship.
Janet Offord (TBTC) presented the winners’ cup to Evie Stilgoe and Jack Woodhouse ( Hardy House). The runners up were Alisha Savory and Henry Smith. The school showed their enthusiastic appreciation to the finalists and all who’d taken part in an entertaining afternoon.
The club continues to run young persons’ coaching on Fridays at 4.00 – 6.00pm and welcomes all children who turn up, just bring a pair of trainers, we supply the rest.
The club also supports the LTA’s national ‘GREAT BRITISH TENNIS WEEKEND’ and welcomes parents and children alike on Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd August. This is FREE to all ages and ability and again we’ll supply the equipment.
