Easton College Mini Orange Team Event

Easton College Tennis Centre played host to a mini orange regional team event on Sunday with pleasing results for the two Norfolk sides involved. With eight teams competing, Easton College finished second overall behind Ipswich Sports Club whilst EA Tennis ended the day in fourth place.

The tournament was played using a timed format with each round of matches lasting 15 minutes. n the preliminary group phase, EA Tennis were level on wins with Ipswich SC but were nudged into second place on rubbers won over the three ties.Easton strolled to victory in the other group, finishing ahead of Cambridge, Culford and Boston.

Ipswich and Easton, the winners of each group, faced off in the final with Ipswich emerging as overall champions by a score of 4 rubbers to 2.

EA Tennis narrowly missed out on the bronze medal as they lost their 3rd and 4th play off to Cambridge.

The final positions were as follows:

1st Ipswich Sports Club, 2nd Easton College, 3rd Cambridge, 4th EA Tennis, 5th Culford, 6th Riverside, 7th Boston, 8th Huntingdon

Norfolk Ladies Beat British Police Force

The Norfolk Ladies side were comfortable winners over a British Police Force team in a friendly match at the Norfolk Health and Racquets Club on Sunday. The tie involved four singles and two doubles matches with Norfolk securing all six rubbers for a whitewash win.

There were few hiccups during the day as all four members if the Norfolk side cruised to straight sets singles victories before Olivia Nicholls and Amy Partridge teamed up to win their doubles in similar fashion.

Despite winning the opening set to love, co-captains Karen Highfield and Lucy Brooks were made to work for their doubles point as their opposition fought back to take the second set 6-4 and force a championship tie-break.

The experience Norfolk pairing regained their composure and turned in a gritty tie-break performance to win 10-8 and complete the rout.

The team will aim to line up further friendly fixtures in the spring season to maintain their match sharpness for Summer County week. At the beginning of March, Nicholls and Partridge will be part of the 18 and under girl’s county team that will compete in group 4 of AEGON County Cup
