The newly re-surfaced courts at Deepdale and Brancaster Staithe Tennis Club on the north Norfolk coast were officially opened on Sunday 5th May by Nick Brown, coach to Britain's junior Davis Cup squad and Eurosport commentator. It was a beautiful sunny day on the Bank Holiday weekend.
The club made it into a real village event celebrating their return to Norfolk LTA as well as the new surface. Club Chairman, David Gunner, thanked all the sponsors of the work to renew the courts, in particular Sport England, from whom the club had received a grant of £31,000 from their Inspired Facilities fund. In addition the club had received funding from Brancaster Parish Council, Leftley’s Costcutter and the Norfolk Community Fund.
Regular players, local children and adults who have been taking part in on-going coaching from Diana Carrington-Smith, the club's LTA coach, were there with their families to enjoy the sunshine, coaching from Nick and a delicious hog roast. The club is now looking forward to a great summer of tennis.
