Jamie Murray and Juniors at Easton

The new eight court indoor tennis centre at Easton College, Norwich was officially opened on the 14 September 2009 by Jamie and Judy Murray.

Jamie, the 2007 Wimbledon Mixed Doubles Champion and brother of world number four Andy Murray and his mother Judy, a former international player and now a coach and TV commentator were guests of honour at the opening along with 350 invited guests.

After a speech from David Lawrence, the college’s principal, some of the brightest young tennis stars from the college’s tennis programme had the opportunity to play tennis with Jamie and Judy.

The young stars and other guests then enjoyed an action packed exhibition match as Jamie and Norfolk’s Warren Sawyer took on Norfolk’s Neil Plaskett and Dan Wynne winning 6-3.

The tennis centre was created with the help of Norfolk LTA, with partnership funding from the national LTA and the Learning and Skills Council. It now has over 60 weekly coaching sessions catering for all ages and abilities and is used by the college to develop its sports curriculum as well as by members of the public on a pay-and-play basis.

Judy Murray said "It's a wonderful facility. To have eight indoor courts is fantastic and it not only opens the doors for training and coaching but for competitions and for the general public to play recreationally."

The Murray’s were supporting the opening through their association with the Royal Bank of Scotland Group (RBS), who have sponsored Jamie since 2006.
