10 eager people came along at 5-6pm to trial the 6 week block of introductory sessions with Carl Brough, who is a local LTA Licensed Coach and a Cardio Tennis tutor.
The arena at Sport Central proved to be a fantastic facility and the pumping music lent to the fun, friendly and energetic hour of activity!
Sabrina Richards who has been attending Cardio Tennis at Walbottle came along with her friend Sam after being introduced to the programme in the West of the City. She expressed her excitement at being able to take part in the sessions at Northumbria University where she is studying,
"Cardio Tennis is exercise you can look forward to, it's innovative whilst being a great way to have fun and exercise."
Beth Williamson who is one of the Northumbria University allplay tennis Newcastle team was amazed how quickly the session went,
"Amazing time! When I go in the gym I normally feel like I've been there for 6 days but with Cardio tonight it flew by. I couldn't believe it when Carl said there was only 5 minutes left! Cannot wait till next week!"
Cardio Tennis is a series of tennis-based drills and activities played to up-tempo music on a tennis court. It does not require tennis skills, but is all about keeping your heart rate up, burning calories and having fun. Whether the ball goes in or out is irrelevant as the main purpose is to get fit.
Cardio Tennis includes a warm-up, cardio work out, and cool down phases. If you are looking for a great new way to get in shape and to burn calories, why not try Cardio Tennis?
The Sport Central sessions are in conjunction with the allplay tennis Newcastle campaign, along with Sport England's Sportivate programme. Further information about Cardio Tennis can be found at the LTA website and if you would like to book onto the Sport Central Cardio please contact reception 0191 227 4700.
