The Northumberland Road to Wimbledon winners and runners up were decided last weekend at Tennis @ Churchill.
The players came from all over clubs in Northumberland after having qualified through from their club events. The clubs represented were: Cramlington Community Tennis Club, Gosforth Tennis Club, Morpeth Tennis Club, Ponteland Lawn Tennis Club and Tynedale Tennis Club.
The event was played over two days, alongside the ladies and mens finals at SW19 (though they did finish in time for most people to get back to watch Murray in action on Sunday!). The eventual winners were Dominic Thompson from Cramlington, and Olivia Rodda from Ponteland. They have now qualified for places in the National Finals which will be played down in Roehampton in August. Normally the finals would be held on the grass courts at Wimbledon, but since they're being used for the Olympics at that time this year, the event will be held on the fantastic grass courts at the Bank of England in Roehampton, just a few miles away.
Congratulations also to the runners up, Emma Carrie and Cormac Lunn who will hopefully get called up to attend the finals as lucky losers!
