7 schools from around Northumberland decended upon Tennis @ Churchill on 29 June to compete in the Year 3 TBSF Schools Challenge.
These schools had already competed in their local competitions throughout the year and the top two schools in the Northumberland final earn the right to compete in the Grand Final at Sunderland Tennis Centre on 6 July - the most prestigious Year 3 competition in the country.
All schools competed brilliantly, and the end scores showed that that each result counted - it was so close! The two schools that came out on top though were Darras Hall Primary School and St Peter & Paul's Primary School.
Pippa Hawes, Phil Givens, Michaela Bowmaker, Steph Eadon and a whole host of young volunteers from local high schools helped make the day run completely smoothly.
The overall results were:
1st = Darras Hall
2nd = St Peter & Paul's
3rd = Ovingham
4th = Cragside
5th = Northburn
6th = Sele
7th = St Bede's
Congratualtions to every school, and good luck in the Grand Final!
We must also say a huge thank you to the Tony Blair Sports Foundation who continue to provide tennis with a tremendous amount of support linked to the Year 3 competition. This includes providing volunteers, training for coaches / volunteers and helping support our two-way school to club pathway! The Tennis Foundation and LTA have also contributed hugely to help grow our sport and ensure as many young people get a tennis racket in their hands as possible!
