May sees the Aegon GB Pro-Series return to the Northumberland Club , from Sunday 5 – Saturday 11 May 2013.
The event is one of three Men’s $10,000 events in the pro clay court season in Britain, and attracts a good combination of British and overseas professional players gracing the County Ground courts in Jesmond. $10,000 ITF Pro-Circuit events, are where all the top players including Djokovic, Nadal, Federer, and Murray, started their professional careers, and 2013 has already seen Marko Djokovic (younger brother of Novak, world no 1), and Christian Harrison (younger brother of Ryan, world no 69) competing at $10k events in Britain.
With most of the player’s world ranked between 250 and 800, the 2012 event saw an all British final with a 19 year old Oliver Golding winning his second Pro title in three weeks. At the time Golding was the reigning US Open Junior Singles Champion, and in the opening round in Newcastle beat top seed David Guez, a player who has been ranked as high as 116, as well as a competitor in the main draw of grand Slam events.
The 2013 line up is to be confirmed shortly and will appear on the LTA website once published: www.lta.org.uk
