Central High School Year 10 girls made it to the Regional rounds of the National Aegon Team Tennis Schools competition and teacher Katie Wardle tells us all about it.
"During the summer term of 2013 the Year 10 Aegon tennis team from Central High beat Church High and RGS to advance to the Regional rounds. Here we came up against Durham High. It was a really close match and finally came down to a deciding tie-break. We won by a whisker which meant we progressed to the Regional Finals and were one of the last 16 in the country in the competition.
"On 11th November we headed to Sunderland Tennis Centre. Everyone was very nervous especially after watching the opposition warm up. We were drawn against Homfirth first. Safe to say they overwhelmed us. This put us into the play off and we were determined to do better. We played St Peter's from York. The match was tied after the doubles but eventually we overcame them in our singles. We very proudly finished third in the Region!!!
"Congratulations to Megan Wilson, Abi Craig, Alex Carrie and Emma Carrie."
