Christmas touchtennis…jumpers compulsory, tinsel optional

Club Northumbria ran the inaugural touchtennis Christmas tournament on Sunday 7th December at Jesmond Tennis Club. 

Members braved the below 0 temperatures in their snazziest Christmas jumpers! Over 20 matches were played despite the wind and cold temperatures; with the lure of food (including pizza and cake!) and drink in the club house, too much for some.

The competitive nature of some members shone through with replays left, right, and centre, especially against one of the coaches; Jon Helliwell. All matches were of a high standard and will be classed as one of three timed tennis events, in which Northumbria are participating.  Both coaches and Tennis Ambassadors, Sarah Forrest and Jon Helliwell were amazed with the support received for the event, and are looking towards the next Newcastle vs Northumbria tennis day, which should arrive around Easter. Thanks must be given to the LTA and Northumbria University for enabling the event to take place.
