Thursday 26th June saw Cramlington Sporting Club full of anticipation ready for the year 4 tennis tournament.
All the leaders from St Benet Biscop high School in Bedlington, who had been volunteering at the yr3 and yr4 competitions, led by Mr Alan Mole, had the courts prepared and ready to greet the competitors from the winning schools from Morpeth/ Ponteland, Blyth/ Bedlington, Ashington/ Coquet, North Northumberland and Cramlington/Seaton Valley Area finals. Unfortunately, Tynedale had pulled out a few days earlier, so there were 5 teams in the race to win the Tennis Trophy.
There was a buzz of excitement as the teams arrived, a quick welcome and safety speech, and the matches started. Everyone had a great time, with some amazing rallies and variety of shots, giving the spectators no choice but to clap spontaneously at the determination of the players to win.
But there can only be one winner, and two and a half hours of fast paced tennis later, we had an outright winner.
Winning every single game, boys and girls, with a maximum score, were the team from Morpeth/Ponteland, Darras Hall First School.
Everyone applauded as they took their place on the stage to collect their medals and trophy.
A massive congratulations to Darras Hall First School, and to all the other schools who had achieved so much, by getting through to the final. The leaders were brilliant, and we could not have run the event without them, so a big Thank you goes to them, and Mr Mole their School sports coordinator.
Looking forward to another successful tennis event next year.
