Energy lights up Tyne and Wear Active Workplace Games!

Monday, June 27, 2016

Kenton School welcomed 12 businesses, with 144 team players competing at the Tyne and Wear Active Workplace Games June 16th

The annual Summer Games provide exciting and rewarding opportunities for businesses across Tyne & Wear to compete against one another in a variety of fun sporting challenges. The events provide people of all ages and abilities with the opportunity to participate in a range of sports whilst socialising with their colleagues and competing to win the title of Tyne & Wear Active Workplace Games Champions.

Tennis has been running their respective events over the last few years and this year did not disappoint.  With fast, furious and fun Tennis Factory skill challenges, all competitors battled it out to get the best scores v other teams.  Across the 4 hours, there were hundreds of rallies achieved, targets hit and the carousel of the rally rebound saw energy levels light up the event!

Alison Cartmell, who is a Tennis Coach in Newcastle, ran the tennis event with support from Kelly Edmund and a number of volunteers.

After teams had completed the range of sport and physical challenges, scores were totalled and the top 3 places were as follows,

Champions - Barclay ‘Rises.’
Runners Up – Gentoo
3rd Place – Johnson Controls

Alison highlighted,

“It’s great to be part of such an inspiring and motivational event.  The energy was electric and it’s great to see everyone involved.  It’s great to hear a number of tennis programmes have been set up through the Active Workplace Games and it will be great to hear about some of the people picking up a racket again!”
