Newcastle College Students Continue Their Journey’s!

Wednesday, March 21, 2018

Louise Assioun from Baseline Sports tutored the 3 hour inclusive course at Newcastle College in mid-March. 16 students learned about tennis activities and how to adapt sessions to ensure sessions are fully inclusive.  Louise showcased a range of adaptive equipment to show ways of modifying delivery to help create a fun, enjoyable and learning environment.

The course was invaluable for the students who gained a huge amount of knowledge to enhance their own personal delivery skills.  The student’s enthusiasm to learn and grow was clear to see and all finished the practical session with a huge amount of additional information about inclusive tennis that can also be applied to other activities.

Robbie, a student of Newcastle College said: “It was new experience because we haven’t done much tennis before.  It was good to see the modifications, which can be used to make them more inclusive, and these can be applied to any activity that we are running!”

The whole experience will play a huge part of the students’ journeys within the sports industry, because although it was a tennis based course, the skills and knowledge can be applied across other sports.

Jo Cunliffe (Regional Tennis Participation Manager) was ecstatic about the session: “It was great to see everyone engaged throughout the course, and I am looking forward to hearing about where they take their new knowledge."

Following the course, the students will volunteer at a number of events including the College’s Inclusive Day, March 26th, weekly sessions at Elswick Park, along with supporting a number of local schools competitions.
