In their final match of the season, the Men’s Over 60 County team narrowly lost a tight match against Warwickshire on Sunday 31st July, to concede their title.
Playing on the outdoor courts at Streetley Tennis Club, Warwickshire, Eddie Fox lost his singles match to Mick Webb, 6-4, 6-4, after being 4-2 up in both sets. John Taylor then won a three hour marathon against Derek Bradshaw 7-6, 6-7, 10-4, but unfortunately Gerry Radford and David Carter were completely outplayed by Geoff Cliff and Keith Bland losing 6-3, 6-1.
In the second round Gerry and David started a fight back, winning their match against Mick Webb and Derek Bradshaw 7-6, 6-1, and with the result of the match on a knife edge, Eddie and John just lost their doubles in a match tie break third set to Geoff Cliff and Keith Bland 6-2, 2-6, 10-4, making the match score 3-2 to Warwickshire.
