Captain’s report
It was a lovely sunny day and we travelled to Malvern, Manor Park Tennis Club to play Hereford & Worcester. A beautiful setting surrounded by the Malvern Hills. We played outside on the artificial grass.
Wendy Scalinger played the number 1 singles against Jackie Burton winning 2 sets to 1, clinching the third set 10 point tie break 11-9, after being 9-4 down in the tie break. She fought back and went on to win the next 7 points and win the match. Well played Wendy.
Lisa Knowles played the number 2 singles against Beverly Morris and like Wendy had a very close match, going to 3 sets. She won the match 2 sets to 1; 5-7, 6-3, 10-4.
Kate Crowther & Ruth Rae lost their first doubles very closely 4-6, 6-3, 6-10. Today seemed to be a day where all matches were going to the third set tie break for everyone. This one unfortunately didn’t go our way, but good effort by Kate and Ruth.
So after the first round we were 2-1 up. Kate & Ruth had a tough second match and lost 6-3, 6-0 against Jackie Burton/Beverly Morris.
Lisa & Wendy won in 3 sets against Tracy Nash/Sarah McCormick, 6-3, 1-6, 10-6.
Well done Notts. Over all we won 3-2 and thank you to Hereford & Worcester for great hospitality and a lovely setting!
